Black women are qualified and ready to lead in the Washington State Legislature. Black people, particularly Black women, contribute to the vibrant fabric of Washington and the electorate. It is well past time that Black women are at the decision table centering and prioritizing the needs of Black communities.

The Black women running for legislature are among the most capable and qualified candidates this year. In our current political environment, the ability for great campaigns to win is directly impacted by the amount of institutional financial support received. The Democratic party, unions and other progressive organizations support campaigns through donations and independent expenditures and, to the detriment of us all, Black women have traditionally received less support than others. This is an unjust barrier that Black women should not have to face when running for office. These systemic barriers prevent all of us from having the most effective, representative and accountable government -- and one that serves all of us.

Persist PAC's 2020 Project, Elect Black Women, is removing this barrier by providing the necessary support to help our excellent Black women candidates win in November.

Persist PAC also centers Black women in the working being done. Persist PAC, co-founded by Alexis Oliver-Turla and Melissa Taylor, has centered Black women from the beginning, and Crystal Fincher is the political consultant for the Elect Black Women project.

Persist PAC supported every Black woman running for the legislature this year, and every one of these candidates successfully made it through the general election. This reflects how great these candidates are and what's possible when we give them the support they deserve.

With your support, we'll be able to help these candidates win in November and provide our communities with the representation that includes and serves all of us. We appreciate your investment in a better future for all of us.
